Today we've been outside Surrey County Council to demand Surrey Pension Fund (SPF) sell its fossil fuel investments. We represent nearly 1000 residents who have submitted a petition to end all investments in Oil, Gas & Coal.
Inside, the SPF is holding its regular quarterly meeting, and is considering changes to its investment policy.
Some of our members also attended the meeting to urge the Committee to complete the elimination of fossil fuel assets from its investment portfolio. We're pleased that SPF has been reducing fossil fuel exposures, most recently with a shift of some of its money to lower carbon assets in September of last year. But it isn’t enough and it isn’t fast enough. The new ICPP scientific report on climate change issued last week makes it really clear: we have to change course urgently.
